IBPSA-USA and Autodesk invited industry professionals to a presentation and design charrette in NYC, to encourage the adoption of efficiency strategies early in the process through design collaboration. The event took place Tuesday October 20, 2015 at the RAB Lighting Showroom. Guests included architects, engineers, owners, contractors, and others interested in sustainable design practices.
The night included presentations on industry trends and case studies, followed by a hands-on group design exercise. Attendees also engaged in discussions on current approaches, potential challenges, and future workflows. "I was surprised at how easy the groups engaged in the design problem," said IBPSA-USA Board Member Shanta Tucker, Associate Director of Atelier Ten in NYC. "Participants were able to step outside of their usual work related role in the process and contribute in a creative way through the entire design process."
The main goal of this night was to foster a model of collaboration between organizations and industry professionals, and to develop an event for attendees that has value, educational opportunities, networking potential, and most of all, real-world collaboration experience. The feedback we've received from our previous charrette guests has been extremely positive, and we're certain it helped us develop an engaging, useful event in NYC.
"We are excited by the success of our partnership with Autodesk in putting on these kinds of events," said Mike Wilson, Executive Director of IBPSA-USA. "And we are looking for our next city where one of our chapters can stage their own Sustainable Design Charrette." Please reach out to Mike Wilson if you'd like IBPSA-USA to consider your city for our next sustaibale design charrette.
IBPSA-USA pleased that we had a such a diverse turnout of industry professionals, and we hope our guests found the charrette to be a worthwhile experience. We will continue using your feedback and comments to improve our future event offerings. In the meantime, stay-tuned for our next design charrette announcement.
