The objective of this workshop is to introduce EnergyPlus to users who are familiar with the basic concepts of HVAC systems and energy simulation. The course will cover the mechanics of using EnergyPlus without the aid of commercial interface software with an emphasis on basic concepts that provide a foundation for more advanced applications. Participants will model basic building envelopes and systems on their own laptop computers. Time for questions and answers will be provided for each topic. The instructor will be Michael J. Prerequisites & Equipments : Several online videos will be made available introducing the basic mechanics of using the EnergyPlus software. It will be expected that participants have viewed these videos prior to the workshop. The total length of these videos will be 60 minutes or less. Participants are required to bring their own laptop computers to the workshop.
Special Note for Apple Mac Users: The Mac version of EnergyPlus does not include all of the utility programs that are available in the Windows version of EnergyPlus. The exercises for this workshop assume the Windows version will be used. If you have a Windows virtual machine on your Mac, it is recommended that you install the Windows version of EnergyPlus to use for the workshop.
