Energy Modeling in Research and Design

Joint BEC-Baltimore Presentation with the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) Maryland Chapter, hosted at Open Works Baltimore

All are welcome at 6:00 pm on April 18 at Open Works in Station North (Baltimore) for a two-part discussion on energy modeling. BEC-Baltimore will be joined by members of the IBPSA’s Maryland Chapter to explore the following:

  • Basics of Urban Wind Sheltering and Infiltration by Saber Khoshdel Nikkho
  • Energy Modeling at Earlier Stage Design by Eshagh Yazdanshenas

This complimentary educational program will conclude by 8:00 pm. This event is FREE.

Speaker Bios:

Saber Khoshdel Nikkho

Saber Khoshdel Nikkho is a Building Performance Consultant at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. His main focus is energy modeling of university lab buildings and research facilities. He has used his expertise in Energyplus and similar softwares to model complicated and high performance buildings on various projects. His background is in modeling energy and airflow in urban neighborhoods using Computational Fluid Dynamics and energy models.

He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. He is an Engineer In Training and registered LEED Accredited Professional.

Eshagh Yazdanshenas

Es’hagh Yazdanshenas is Head of the Energy Group at Global Engineering Solutions. He is an expert in energy modeling and related simulation applications, such as CFD modeling and daylight modeling. His energy modeling experience includes parametric studies for conceptual design, whole building energy modeling for LEED, shading analysis, energy utility analysis and renewable energy.

His PhD was on “Advanced solar combisystem” carried out at the Technical University of Denmark within European Union project, SolNet (2006-2010).

Eshagh is proficient in some modeling and simulation programs such as EnergyPlus, Trace, TRNSYS, DesignBuilder, Google SketchUp, Star CCM+, and FLUENT, among others.

He has also written numerous papers and presented at SimBuild, ASES and ISES solar world congress and EUROSUN.
