Through its grid-interactive efficient building (GEB) research, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies Office (BTO) seeks to build on existing energy efficiency efforts and develop technological capabilities to optimize the interplay between building loads and the electric grid. This webinar focuses on dynamic opaque envelope and windows technologies. High potential dynamic building envelope technologies include thermally anisotropic materials, thermal storage, and tunable thermal conductivity materials for the opaque envelope and dynamic glazing and automated attachments for windows. These technologies are in contrast to static high-performance building envelope technologies, such as highly insulating windows and high R-value per inch insulation.
