  • About the Queen Mary: We're very excited to be holding our event at the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach. See map here. The venue is about a 2 mile walk from the Long Beach Convention Center area, and free public transport is available. Our Summer meeting will be held in the Windsor Salon. "Every room at the Queen Mary tells a story and the Windsor Salon is no exception. Adjacent to the Grand Salon and originally part of the first-class dining room, the focal point of the Windsor Salon is the four original mirror covered panels, which tells the ancient Greek story of Jason and his quest for the Golden Fleece."

Agenda:

5:00 - Technical Presentation
Speaker: Peter Simmonds
Title: Modeling Occupant Comfort

  • Occupant comfort is expressed in terms of PMV/PPD as described in ISO and ASHRAE Standards. The complexities of understanding and modeling complex spaces and the mean radiant temperature exchange in such spaces is somewhat complicated. From the early days of manually calculating occupant comfort in hospital wards to Terminal 2 at Incheon Airport, there have been many calculations to investigate occupant comfort in occupied spaces. This presentation will show the results of the design process for some of the many buildings explaining the intricacies of each solution and show how ISO and ASHRAE standards can be used as an effective design and analysis method for modern designs.
