Topic #1 - 
Afaan will be presenting examples of projects that integrate Arup’s engineering and design domain knowledge with data advisory and management, data science, and platform and application development services to provide clients with insight and more meaningful interaction with their data.

Topic #2 - 
Matt will present two projects built with d3.js, the advantages of this approach, and when one might want to use it. He’ll also show how Integral has used the OpenStudio API for model building, running simulations, and reporting.

Presenter Bios:

Afaan Naqvi leads the Arup San Francisco Applied Data Strategies (ADS) team. The ADS team delivers custom analysis tools, GIS platforms, and smart building projects for internal and external clients. These projects combine Arup's built environment domain knowledge with technology such as LiDar scanning and cloud computing, and are deployed as desktop or web-based applications.

Afaan’s background is in mechanical and energy engineering, and he has 10 years of green-building design, energy and resource efficiency, and technical masterplanning experience. Afaan combines coding and data-analytics with visualization and front-end development to communicate energy engineering solutions that span between the single building and campus scales.
Afaan is a professional Engineer PE in CA, a Certified Energy manager (CEM), and a LEED AP. He holds a bachelors in mechanical and aeronautical engineering from McGill University and a Masters in Engineering Management from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Matthew Dahlhausen is an Energy Modeler with Integral Group, Inc. He is the team's expert on OpenStudio, parametric modeling, scripting, data analysis, and data visualization with web tools. In addition to his work, he is pursuing his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, focusing on building energy model calibration. He holds an M.S. in Architectural Engineering from Penn State, and a B.E. in Environmental Engineering from Dartmouth College. He has authored or co-authored several papers in the field.
