Wisconsin Chapter Update on June 2019 Speaker Event: Net Zero Buildings

On June 6th on a beautiful summer day in downtown Madison, the IBPSA-USA Wisconsin Chapter hosted their second speaker event at the Strang office in the newly erected Gebhart Building. Strang’s Russell Knudson gave the event attendees a tour of the Strang office, what could be the first WELL Certified Building in Wisconsin. He highlighted the different materials, lighting systems, air systems, food systems, and the white noise system. The attendees cooled with local, Wisconsin craft beverages.

The keynote speaker, Benjamin Skelton, from Cyclone Energy came up to Madison from Chicago to support the local chapter and enlighten the broad range of professionals and students in attendance. A fun fact that was mention that one of the last times Benny was in Madison, he completed the Ironman Triathlon. Benny gave an excellent presentation about the trials and tribulations of a Net Zero Energy building in the Midwest climate. He brilliantly answered the questions and helped frame the mindset of what needs to happen to create such a building in this climate.

Please save the date for the next IBPSA-USA Wisconsin event: Thursday, September 19th at 5pm CDT. The IBPSA-USA Committee has invited a panel of local experts to discuss an important topic for the industry:  Women in Building Performance and Simulation. Please stay tuned for more details!
