Elevate Your Career: The Whys and Hows of Sharing Your Work through Papers and Presentations

Many individuals engage in valuable and innovative research and projects, but they often neglect the critical step of sharing their work. The struggle to convey complex ideas coherently, finding the right audience to share one’s work, fear of rejection or presenting in front of an unknown audience are all valid challenges faced by both professionals and students alike.

EPSI brings a panel discussion that can help you gain valuable insights into the nuances of effective knowledge sharing through papers and presentations. This guidance can help you jumpstart your careers, build your professional reputations, and navigate the often complex process of publishing and presenting work.

A roboticist turned building engineer, his research interests are in using machine learning and artificial intelligence for the built environment for a sustainable energy transition. He is a fellow of IBPSA World and has received the Outstanding Researcher Award from IBPSA-USA in 2022, several Best Paper awards from the CISBAT conference, Building & Environment journal, as well as a Highest Cited Paper award from Applied Energy. He co-founded and organizes the ACM workshop on Reinforcement Learning for energy management in buildings and cities (RLEM). He co-authored over 60 journal articles, over 70 conference articles and 3 book chapters.

Dr. Holly Samuelson

Dr. Samuelson is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, teaching architectural technology courses. Her teaching and research focus on issues of building design that impact human and environmental health. Her current projects harness advanced building simulation to investigate issues of greenhouse gas emissions, heat vulnerability, and indoor environmental quality while considering the future of buildings in a changing electricity grid. Prior to joining Harvard, Samuelson practiced full-time as an architect (2000-2007) and sustainable design consultant (2007-2008). Samuelson has coauthored more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers, including a Best Paper awarded by the journal Energy and Buildings, and has delivered more than 50 invited public lectures. A recognized expert in architectural technology, she has been interviewed by national media outlets, including the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and the Wall Street Journal.
