Assessing the impact of building-induced aerodynamics effects on pedestrian comfort and safety at a large scale is of great interest to local governments, architects, urban planners, designers, and developers. A common method of assessing pedestrian comfort is to perform a series of CFD simulations for different wind directions, combining the results with historical wind data obtained from the weather station near the site location and checking compliance with a suitable wind comfort criterion. However, existing simulation tools and methodology demand CFD expertise and in-house high-performance computing facilities.

With the advent of powerful cloud computing, a new ‘Pedestrian Comfort Analysis’ application has been developed by simulationHub that performs the CFD simulations on the cloud and provides comfort and safety plots for large-scale models within hours. Through introduction and case study, this session illustrates the ‘Pedestrian Comfort Analysis’ app to assess pedestrian wind comfort and safety across urban building design.

Presenters:

Sandip Jadhav is a successful entrepreneur in the CAD/CAE space. He co-founded CCTech, Zeus Numerix, Adaptive 3D Technologies, LearnCAx, and recently simulationHub, a cloud-based fluid flow simulation web service. Sandip has led several product development teams in conceptualizing, designing software, and implementation of apps in CAD and simulation space. Sandip is a passionate software developer and loves to tinker with technology.

Praveen Kumar is the Product Manager of simulationHub, a flagship CFD platform of CCTech. Praveen has deep expertise in converting real world problems into accurate computational problems. He has been instrumental in conceptualizing building simulation apps for the simulationHub team. With more than 13 years of strong domain experience in CFD, he has also developed flavor for user experience. Praveen holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Postgraduate DACFD.

Vijay Mali is a technology explorer, a visionary, and a product maker. As CTO of the company, he plays a critical role in deciding the company's technology vision. He also leads the center of excellence CoE department at CCTech, which is responsible for exploring new technologies & building a strategy to bring them to common designers. Vijay has over 15 years of experience in providing CFD solutions for many complex problems. He has conceptualized many software solutions, including the Pedestrian Comfort Analysis & Control Valve Performer app developed on the simulationHub platform. Vijay is known for his transformative way of teaching and trained more than 500 candidates on complex topics like computational fluid dynamics and design optimization. He has delivered talks at various events and engineering colleges about CFD and its use in product design optimization. Vijay holds a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology IIT Bombay.
