Dr. Xu Han
Professor Han’s research group at the University of Kansas (School of Engineering) advances building science and environmental systems through thermal-fluid science, computational modeling, intelligent controls and optimization, and human-centered design. His work integrates fast CFD, building energy simulation, energy system modeling and controls, urban microclimate modeling, and machine learning to improve performance of HVAC systems, data-center cooling, indoor environmental quality and urban sustainability. He earned his PhD in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. Following that, he served as a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Current efforts focus on scalable digital-twin methods, occupant-centric and privacy-preserving HVAC control, IoT-enabled smart buildings, climate-responsive building design, and sustainable & resilient cities to support high-performance, low‐carbon built environments.
