Simulation Showcase Series: Thermal Comfort and Implementation

IBPSA-USA is thrilled to kick off the Simulation Showcase Webinar Series, a new initiative from the Emerging Professionals and Students (EPSI) Committee that highlights the next generation of building performance leaders.

This monthly series gives students and recent graduates a stage to share how they are applying building simulation and analysis to solve real-world challenges.

For our October session, presenters Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi, Mohammed Umar, and Divyanshu Sood will each deliver 10-minute spotlight talks, followed by a live Q&A. Join us to gain fresh insights, discover innovative solutions, and see how simulation is shaping the future of the built environment.

Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi

Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi is a Ph.D. candidate at Poznan University of Technology in Poland, specializing in energy-efficient building design, natural ventilation, and simulation-based optimization. His research focuses on thermal comfort and natural ventilation in residential buildings under climate change, using advanced simulation tools such as Autodesk CFD, OpenFOAM, and DesignBuilder. He has published in journals and conferences including Builder, Energy Reports, and EACWE 2025, and has received international research scholarships through NAWA STER and Erasmus+. His work bridges architecture, building science, and computational simulation to advance sustainable and resilient housing design.

Divyanshu Sood

Divyanshu is an energy systems researcher at University College Dublin, specializing in sustainable building design, data-driven optimization, and indoor environmental quality. His PhD developed machine learning-based occupancy models and multi-objective optimization frameworks to improve energy use, comfort, and air quality in residential buildings. He has contributed to EU- and nationally funded projects such as ALIVE, received the NSAI Standards Innovation Award (2024), and presented at international forums including the CIBSE Technical Symposium 2025. His work bridges research, policy, and practice to advance healthy, energy-efficient, and climate-responsive housing.

Mohammed Umar

Umar is an architect turned building energy professional, currently working as Assistant Manager (Innovation & Research) at GBCI, India. He specializes in whole-building performance analysis, HVAC optimization, and data-driven simulation, with research spanning AI applications, air filtration media, and green building decarbonization. A Gold Medalist from CEPT University’s M.Tech. Building Energy Performance program, he has received the IBPSA Student Award (2023) and GICEA Gold Medal Award (2025). His work bridges design, simulation, and policy to advance resilient, low-energy, and healthy buildings.
