IBPSA-USA Awards 2022

IBPSA-USA awards are presented every two years at the ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA Building Performance Analysis Conference and SimBuild. This year’s conference is being held in Chicago, IL, September 14th – 16th, 2022. Awards will be presented on September 15th, 2022 during the conference.

Nominations are now open for the following awards:

    • IBPSA-USA Award for Distinguished Achievement in Building Simulation.  This award recognizes an individual who has a distinguished record of contributions to the field of building performance simulation, over a period of 15 or more years.
    • IBPSA-USA Outstanding Practice Award. This award recognizes an individual, group or firm who has made significant contributions to the effective application and/or advancement of building simulation in practice.
    • IBPSA-USA Emerging Contributor Award. This award recognizes an individual at the beginning of their career who has demonstrated potential for significant contributions to the field of building simulation.
    • IBPSA-USA Outstanding Service Award. This award recognizes one or more individuals, groups or firms who have provided outstanding leadership in the promotion of building simulation through research, education or practice.

Nomination Instructions

These guidelines are for all awards categories. Nominators must complete an online form, see links below.

  1. Nominees and nominators must be IBPSA-USA members.
  2. Nominations for awards must be made by a third party.
  3. Nominations must be received no later than August 5th, 2022.
  4. Nominations include:
    1. 250-word personal statement from the nominator about the nominee and how they have affected the simulation community and why they are deserving of this award.
    2. 250-word summary of significant achievements/contributions (focusing on considerations and types of contributions specific to that award).
    3. Nominee’s CV in PDF format.

 

AWARD DETAILS

 

Award for Distinguished Achievement in Building Simulation

This award recognizes an individual who has a distinguished record of contributions to the field of building performance simulation, over a period of 15 or more years.

Considerations:

  • Influence and impact
  • Innovation
  • Quality of contributions
  • Quantity of contributions

Typical types of contributions:

  • Research and development of models and methods
  • Software development
  • Policy development
  • Development of reference and educational material
  • Teaching

Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas

Outstanding Practice (or Practitioner) Award

This award recognizes an individual, group or firm, who has made significant contributions to the effective application and/or advancement of building simulation in practice.

Considerations:

  • Contribution to software development/improvement
  • Contribution through sharing knowledge: presentations, papers, sharing of experience
  • Bridging gap between academia and industry
  • Innovative and influential projects
  • Expanding use of simulation in building industry
  • Entrepreneurship 
  • Novel applications of simulation
  • Length of time of contribution
  • Participation in IBPSA-USA

Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas.

IBPSA-USA Emerging Contributor Award

This award recognizes an individual at the beginning of their career who has demonstrated potential for significant contributions to the field of building simulation.

  • Policy development
  • Development of reference and educational material
  • Novel applications of simulation
  • Participation in industry societies

Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas

Outstanding Service Award

This award recognizes one or more individuals, groups or firms who have provided outstanding leadership in the promotion of building simulation through research, education or practice.

Consideration:

  • Promotion of simulation
  • Service to IBPSA-USA, including conference organization
  • Mentoring of emerging contributors
  • Outstanding teaching and course development
  • Linking research and practice
  • Policy development

Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas.
