IBPSA-USA Awards 2024
IBPSA-USA awards are presented every two years at the IBPSA-USA SimBuild conference. This year’s conference is being held in Denver, CO, May 21st – 23rd, 2024. Awards will be presented at the conference. Please take time to recognize, and nominate, your colleagues and industry partners. Nominees can be IBPSA-USA members or can be active member(s) in the building performance and simulation community.
Nominations are now open for the following awards:
- IBPSA-USA Emerging Contributor Award. This award recognizes an individual at the beginning of their career who has demonstrated potential for significant contributions to the field of building simulation. Within about 3-7 years of their last degree.
- IBPSA-USA Outstanding Practice Award. This award recognizes an individual, group, or firm who has made significant contributions to the effective application and/or advancement of building simulation in practice.
- IBPSA-USA Outstanding Service Award. This award recognizes one or more individuals, groups, or firms who have provided outstanding leadership, mentoring, and volunteering in the promotion of building simulation through research, education, practice, or advocacy.
- IBPSA-USA Outstanding Researcher Award. This award recognizes one or more individuals who have provided outstanding leadership in the promotion of building simulation through research in the course of their careers.
- IBPSA-USA Outstanding Chapter Award. This award recognizes one or more IBPSA-USA Chapters that have provided outstanding leadership in the promotion of building simulation through chapter activities and have been key in promoting and fostering the vision and mission of IBPSA-USA. (nominations accepted but not required for Outstanding Chapter Award selection).
- IBPSA-USA Award for Distinguished Achievement in Building Simulation. This award recognizes an individual who has a distinguished record of contributions to the field of building performance simulation, over a period of 15 or more years.
Nomination Instructions
These guidelines are for all awards categories. Nominators must complete an online form; see links below.
- Nominees must be an active member(s) in the building performance and simulation community.
- Nominators must be IBPSA-USA members.
- Nominations for awards must be made by a third party.
- Nominations must be received no later than
January 17th, 2024.January 31, 2024 - Nominations include:
- 250-word personal statement from the nominator about the nominee and how they have affected the simulation community and why they are deserving of this award.
- 250-word summary of significant achievements/contributions (focusing on considerations and types of contributions specific to that award).
- Nominee’s CV in PDF format.
AWARD DETAILS
IBPSA-USA Emerging Contributor Award
This award recognizes an individual at the beginning of their career who has demonstrated potential for significant contributions to the field of building simulation. Within 3-7 years of their last degree.
Considerations:
- Innovation
- Quality of contributions
Typical types of contributions:
- Research and development of models and methods
- Software development
- Policy development
- Development of references and educational materials
- Novel applications of building performance simulation
- Participation in industry societies
Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas.

This award recognizes an individual, group, or firm, who has made significant contributions to the effective application and/or advancement of building simulation in practice.
Considerations:
- Contribution to software development/improvement
- Contribution through sharing knowledge: presentations, papers, sharing of experience
- Bridging gap between academia and industry
- Innovative and influential projects
- Expanding use of simulation in building industry
- Entrepreneurship
- Novel applications of simulation
- Length of time of contribution
- Participation in IBPSA-USA
Nominees are not expected to have made contributions in all areas.

This award recognizes one or more individuals, groups, or firms who have provided outstanding leadership, mentoring, and volunteering in the promotion of building simulation through research, education or practice, or advocacy.

- Mentoring of emerging contributors
- Outstanding teaching and course development
- Linking research and practice
- Policy development
