Academic excellence and socio-economic impact
Developing its research and teaching activities in the field of ecodesign and energy efficiency of buildings, MINES Paris, member of PSL Research University, opens an assistant professor position in energy performance assessment and management of buildings.
This permanent position is suited for a young researcher (approximately 3-10 years of experience after the PhD), who appreciates a multidisciplinary work combining fundamental research and industrial applications. A description of the process is available on Mines Paris – PSL website: https://www.minesparis.psl.eu/en/recruitment/jobs-for-young-scientists/
The ETB research group (https://www.ces.minesparis.psl.eu/Groupes-de-recherche/ETB/), located at the Versailles Satory (suburbs of Paris) site of MINES Paris, is well known for its research into the energy efficiency of buildings and their environmental assessment. It participates in IEA annexes on building performance assessment and LCA of zero-carbon buildings, and coordinates a research and teaching chair in eco-design of built environments (https://www.lab-recherche-environnement.org/en/).
In order to expand the activities of the ecodesign and thermal performance of buildings group, MINES Paris is opening an assistant researcher position in the assessment and optimisation of the thermal and energy performance of buildings and associated systems.
Description of the vacancy
The successful candidate is expected to have already proven his/her ability to elaborate academic research in ecodesign and energy performance of buildings. He/she is expected to develop an independent and creative research program devoted to his/her topics, initiate an externally funded research program, and establish a strong relationship with academic communities and technological companies.
Research
The successful candidate will participate in supervising doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers, and interns, while developing their own research topic in the field of assessing and optimising the thermal and energy performance of buildings and associated systems in the context of climate change and environmental transition. These topics are major energy efficiency challenges in the context of building renovation to minimise their environmental impacts. Beyond heating energy consumption, attention must also be paid to heat waves (building resilience, optimising comfort, minimising impacts). To do this, the candidate will need to combine digital and experimental approaches using a semi-virtual test bench in a climate chamber.
He/she will be required to:
· propose new research directions capable of leading to work of high scientific interest while also being attractive for industrial applications,
· publish in the best scientific journals in the field,
· draft research proposals in response to national and European international calls for projects and set up projects in collaboration with industry while maintaining high scientific standards.
Teaching activities
The candidate will contribute to the school’s various teaching and training programs; in particular, from the outset, he or she will participate in teaching courses offered by Paris Sciences et Lettres University (PSL University) as well as specialised master’s programs in the field. He or she will also participate in the options offered by the engineering program at Mines Paris – PSL, as well as in the “General Engineering” projects (MIG), which evolve each year. He or she will also be involved in tutoring specialised master’s students and in training doctoral students through research. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop new courses that will enrich the school’s educational offering.
Candidate’s profile
At the time of the appointment, the applicant must have a doctoral degree in building energy efficiency or related subject. As the position implies cooperation with international partners, strong social skills as well as good knowledge of English language are required. Post-doctoral experience in a foreign laboratory would be an asset for this position.
The applicant will have to show his/her capacity to conduct research work in a multidisciplinary context, together with an aptitude for teamwork. A first experience in academic or industrial joint research would be appreciated.
