Future-Looking Emission Factors: Development – IBPSA-USA Education Committee
Many cities, states, and countries have set aggressive decarbonization goals in recent years. However, translating high level goals into day-to-day building performance modeling remains a challenge because there is a wide range of methodologies to quantify emissions. The IBPSA-USA Education Committee is hosting a 2-part webinar series on future-looking emission factors with industry experts. The September webinar will provide an introduction to the different types of future-looking emission factors that are available and presentations about the development process. The October webinar will feature speakers discussing current applications both at the state and national level, and the decision process for selecting which factors to implement.

Michael Sontag joined E3 in 2016. He has also worked as a product manager for a sustainable building materials company and as an energy efficiency engineer.

Pieter Gagnon is a Senior Energy System Analyst at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. His primary research focus is on the interaction between the demand and the supply side of the electric sector, and uses NREL’s grid models to create data products that can help bring what we know about the evolving electric grid into demand-side planning, evaluation, and decision-making. He has lead the development and release of NREL’s new Cambium data product, which includes forward-looking emission metrics.
