The IBPSA-USA Chicago Chapter (CHIBPSA) celebrated a chapter milestone by awarding the 4th Ralph T. Muehleisen (RTM) Scholarship to Jongki Lee, Ph.D Candidate at the Illinois Institute of Technology, during the IBPSA-USA 2024 Member Reception at the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

In 2019, the chapter established the scholarship in Dr. Muehleisen’s name for his continued contributions in the fields of engineering and science, advancement in education and research, unwavering mentorship of others, unremitting inspiration to the building simulation community, and prominence as an industry innovator. Personally, for Dr. Tommy Zakrzewski (CHIBPSA Board Member), “Dr. Muehleisen determination was a source of inspiration to me, and it helped me stay focused on achieving my goals. He’s been a Mentor who has consistently cultivated professional and academic growth. My hope is that this Scholarship becomes a source of inspiration just as Dr. Muehleisen has been for me.”

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage qualified degree candidates in seeking academic and career development in the field of building performance simulation and analysis. Jongki Lee’s journey in Architectural Engineering, has centered on understanding and improving the spaces we inhabit. “My focus lies in evaluating and analyzing building performance, particularly in terms of energy efficiency and occupant comfort. The alignment between IBPSA-USA’s mission and my career aspirations is clear, motivating me to further contribute to enhancing building performance.”

The Ralph T. Muehleisen (RTM) Scholarship has been self-funded by the CHIBPSA Board since 2019 and has awarded more than $2,500 to IBPSA-USA Student Members.
